Acacias are also known as wattles. There are over 900 species of acacia native to Australia. The plant leaves, roots and stems are consumed in some cultures for healing, ceremonial and religious uses. They contain some organic compounds that are psychoactive in humans and in Egyptian mythology the tree has also been linked with the tree of life.
