Birdwing Chrysalis

A Cairns birdwing butterfly (male) has just emmerged from its chrysalis. Here it can be seen drying its wings before it takes flight. This transformation from catterpillar to butterfly is called pupation. The catterpillar forms a chrysalis, changing inside it and then emerging as an adult. A truly amazing process and colourful display of nature.

These images are printed on high quality photographic paper using archival inks. Then mounted by hand on textured card stock.
